China Lifts Mad Cow Ban on Canada

On May 20, Canada received confirmation from a laboratory that a single cow tested positive for BSE. The cow came from a commercial farm in northern Alberta, Canada. According to Drug Control Law of the People's Republic of China and Notification of Strengthening Administration of Bovine and Relevant Drugs, Canada will be added to the list of BSE restricted countries. As a result, live cattle and other ruminant animals, beef and other meat derived from ruminants, and products containing processed animal protein will no longer be allowed to be exported from Canada to China.

As of the date of promulgation, drugs registered in or imported from Canada must abide by Notification of Strengthening Administration of Bovine and Relevant Drugs which has been issued by State Food and Drug Administration.
